CSF 2011 Junior Sailing Camp Preparation:
Good Afternoon Sailors,
We look forward to seeing you the first day of sailing camp at Lake Wheeler. We will meet at the pavilion near the boat launch area and playground.
- We have 3 instructors assigned. There will be 2 instructors at all times.
- Camp runs 9am-4pm. Please do not drop off kids before 8:45 or pick up after 4:15.
- Please have your sailor apply sunscreen before coming to camp and bring some with them.
- Sailors should wear shoes, shorts, hats and shirts that can get wet. It's a good idea to have sunglasses also. If they like they can bring a change of clothes for after camp.
- Sailors should also bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks. There is no refrigerator or microwave available so lunches should be in coolers with ice packs.
There is a snack bar at the Lake but I'm not sure of the hours and the selection is very limited. If you want to know more about the snack bar you can call the lake at
- Valuables should be left at home. We will have a box that kids can put backpacks, phones and other items in and will be locked in an instructors car while on the water.
- We can loan life jackets for the week but some people like to bring their own.
- Each sailor will be assigned their own boat.
- The schedule each day depending on weather and wind will be:
Raleigh, NC 27603
(919) 662-5704
Lake Wheeler Park
| 9-10 | Chalk Talk and Rigging |
| 10-12 | Sailing |
| 12-1 | Lunch |
| 1-3 | Sailing |
| 3-4 | Unrig and Review |
By the end of the week the students should be comfortable sailing their own boat in wind under 12mph. This is a sail camp so kids should expect to be on the water sailing according to the schedule.
Happy Sailing!
