Students can earn the US Sailing Small Boat Certification for Winds up to 15MPH in our sailing lessons. This requires boat righting (included in price) and will be scheduled on another day in a smaller boat when the wind is 10+ mph. For Winds above 15 MPH, a special sailing class will need to be scheduled when there are high winds.

Learn about Sailing:

These sailing lessons will give the student a brief introduction to parts of a sailboat and then plenty of time on the water in a sailboat. The goal of this sailing class is to have the student experience sailing and perform the various duties of crew and skipper on a dinghy sailboat.

The student may then want to continue in our Learn to Sail class.

Cost of this class is $50 per person, for three hours of instruction about sailing.

Sign Up: Contact Roy Rysdon rrysdon@nc.rr.com or (919) 949-6072

Roy is able to schedule classes during the week.
Most of the Learn to Sail weekends (see below) will have an associate doing Learn about Sailing.

Learn to Sail:

In these adult sailing lessons the student will learn how to sail a small sailboat. The goal of this course is for the student to know how to get from one place to another safely in a sailboat, to safely leave a dock and return without putting the boat through the dock, and to know when it is not safe to sail for their skills.

We will use a 19 foot long Flying Scot sailboat for the lessons and there will be a limit of three students per class. The book for this course is “Start Sailing Right” by US Sailing and the American Red Cross. A copy of the book will be provided for the students for reading prior to the course.

Cost for this class will be $375, for Saturday and Sunday, plus boat righting if certification is desired.
