Roy Rysdon, Head Instructor
Carolina Sailing Foundation sponsors Learn about Sailing and Learn to Sail classes for adults and young adults taught by a US Sailing certified instructor. Classes will be at Vista Point on Lake Jordan.
Learn about Sailing:
This course will give the student a brief introduction to parts of a sailboat and then plenty of time on the water in a sailboat. The goal of this class is to have the student experience sailing and perform the various duties of crew and skipper on a dinghy sailboat.
The student may then want to continue in our Learn to Sail class.
Cost of Learn about Sailing is $50 and you will receive three hours of instruction about sailing.
Dates TBD Call head instructor. Conact information at bottom of page
Learn to Sail:
In this course the student will learn how to sail a small sailboat. The goal of this course is for the student to know how to get from one place to another safely in a sailboat, to safely leave a dock and return without putting the boat through the dock, and to know when it is not safe to sail for their skills. We will use a 19 foot long Flying Scot for the lessons and there will be a limit of three students per class. The book for this course is “Start Sailing Right” by US Sailing and the American Red Cross. A copy of the book will be provided for the students for reading prior to the course. Cost for this class will be $375.
